"Now the area in front of the Tabernacle, in The East toward The Rising of The Sun, was reserved for the tents of Moyshe and of Aharon and his sons, who had the final responsibility for maintaining the sanctuary on behalf of K'lal Yisra'el and the rites of worship. Any unauthorized stranger other than a priest or Levite who came too near the sanctuary shall be put to death" [Bamidbar 3:38].
"Then a man came and brought the Media, before the eyes of the entire congregation of B'nei Yisra'el, while they were weeping at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. Pinchas ben Eleazar ben Aharon ha'kohen saw this, arose from the congregation, and took a spear in his hand. He went after the man into the chamber and drove [it through] both of them; the man, and the Medea shikse through her stomach, and the plague ceased from B'nei Yisra'el. Those that died in the plague numbered twenty four thousand" [Bamidbar 25: 6-9].
