"One man by the name of Tzalyah from shevet Dan knew how to subjugate the forces of impurity and to fly after Bilaam. He succeeded in overpowering the wicked Bilaam and constrained him, forcing him to come before Pinchas.
How? Tzalyah knew how to constrain (both) aspects of the impure forces, which are caled shefi. Bilaam knew how to overpower [only one]. Regarding Bilaam it is written, 'And he went [through the power of] shefi' (Bamidbar 23:3). Whereas, regarding shevet Dan it is written, 'May Dan be a serpent on the way, a viper on the path, that bites a horse's heels—and its rider tumbles backward' (Bereisheet 49:17).
Similarly, in the future the vengeance against Hashem's enemies will also be executed by a descendant of shevet Dan. Shimshon will be reincarnated one more time, as Serayah, a Dani, the messiah's general at the end of times. Thus, when Dan arises one should be on the lookout for Yisra'el's redemption."
The inextricable bond between B'nei Dan-B'nei Menashe
"Dan is like a lion's whelp that leaps from Bashan" (Devarim 33:22).
"Dan's blessing obviously relates to their military might and the location of their "nachala" - at the western slopes of the Golan Heights [Bashan is the biblical name for the Golan - see Devarim 3:8-10], today the area of Tel Dan and Kiryat Shmona in the Chula valley of the Upper Galil. Additionally, Rashi explains the lion metaphor as a reference to Dan's location on the border, standing guard against enemy intrusion.
[In Devarim 4:43 we find that the Golan region was included in Menashe's nachala, not Dan's, as Moshe seems to indicate here. However, as the Targum here explains, our pasuk means that Dan lived near the Bashan, and the land in his region was watered by the streams flowing down from the Golan.]"
Shevet Dan/Ethiopian Jewry's connection to Shlomo ha'Melekh, Malkat Shva, and K'ruvim east of B'Gan'Eden, further enhanced by their Dragon characteristics:
"In the hollow of the great abyss, on the north side, ravaging bands of stingers are poised—all clustered warriors to harass the world" (Zohar 3:194b).
"Why is one of the Shevatim of Yisra'el associated with the serpent and demonic sphere? R' Hiyya explains that just as fierce K'ruvim guard the way to the Tree of Life, so Dan protects Yisra'el from any enemies. The embellishment of Shlomo's throne, symbolizes the positive aspect of the demonic element; for example, its role in punishing the wicked. Shimshon was a serpent in this world confronting other nations, for he inherited the share of blessings of his ancestor, Dan. R' El'azar explains that because Dan corresponds to 'Hod', near the bottom of the sefirotic realm, he is appointed along Ya'akov's Ladder-Rung, over the demonic realm of the serpent below to restrain and counter it. Furthermore, shevet Dan encamped on the north side of Beis Ha'Mikdash and north symbolizes harsh Judgement, from which evil forces issue."
