Arvind Mahankali, 13, is the latest Indian to win the National Spelling Bee. Eleven of the last fifteen victors (from 1999 to 2013) including the last five years in a row are Indians. Besides an engraved championship trophy, India captured a $30,000 cash prize, a $2,500 U.S. savings bond, a complete reference library, and $2,000 of reference works.
