Religious Services Minister Naftali Bennett and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni sent a letter to the chief rabbi candidates on Tuesday stating their intention to unite the two chief rabbi positions into one, Channel 2 reported.
According to Bennett and Livni's proposal, one rabbi will hold the Chief Rabbi position, while the other will serve as the president of the rabbinate court.
Livni and Bennett intend to implement their initiative in the upcoming term, the letter said.
4 Sephardic Candidates Remain
Now only Rabbis Yitzchak Yosef, Shmuel Eliyahu, David Stav, David Lau, Yaakov Shapira, Tzion Bouaron, and Ratzon Arusi remain. One of these great men will actually stand to lead the nation with his counterpart, and interestingly, their names correspond to great leaders of the past.
In only a few Days We will have a Rabbi
"Israel know for sure that Someone New is Coming. Someone with a herald of the Torah designed and tailored for these good good people who wish to participate in Yom Kippur services and live a life of faith devotion lovingkindness and dedication to G-d while still defining themselves as Traditional. Here are the true people of G-d. The sense of togetherness and family values across Israel these folk share requires Someone who can deal with their needs with love and sensitivity. Moses was this kind of Leader, like those before and after him, and maybe. Those Days are coming round again."
