"Maya Beiser was raised on Kibbutz Gazit in the Galilee (originally a Communist community called, 'Argentina A' formed in 1947 by immigrants from Argentina, as well as Kurdistan) by her French mother and Argentine father, graduated from Yale University School of Music, and studied with Isaac Stern. During her time in the army she played in the Israel Defense Forces string quartet ('a wonderful way to do my army service'), entertaining fellow soldiers and visiting dignitaries. She's since collaborated with Tan Dun, Steve Reich, and Phillip Glass, among other composers."
